It was business as usual for the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria as they dispatched the La Rojitas of Chile five goals to one at the Estadio Sausalito Vina Del Mar on Wednesday morning. It was indeed a five-star performance from the defending world champions as a goal from team captain, Kelechi Nwakali and a brace each from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze shot Nigeria to the top of group A standings and ensured qualification to the second round.
The Eaglets showed real intention with a goal off the mark, Chukwueze netting his first just 30 seconds into the game. This set the stage for dazzling and entertaining displays. Nwakali converted from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after the brilliant Chukwueze was fell down.
The unplayable Eaglets once again proved unstoppable and ran riot in the second half with a delightful and masterfully crafted finish from the impressive Chukwueze in the 60th minute. Chukwueze got involved soon as he was yet again brought down in the penalty box and Osimhen coolly converted the resulting kick. Although Allende grabbed what seemed like a consolation for the hosts, it was not enough to put a smile on the faces of the Chilean fans. Osimhen heaped more misery and restored the four-goals lead with a header.
The result means the Eaglets have secured passage to the next round while Chile face an early exit if they fail to win their last game against USA. Nigeria will face Croatia in the final group game on Friday.
